16th International Docomomo Conference

The candidacy from Docomomo Japan to organise the 16th International Docomomo Conference, in Tokyo, was approved in the 15th Docomomo Council Meeting, last August 30, 2018, at Cankarjev Dom. The 16th International Docomomo Conference will take place in Tokyo, organized by Docomomo Japan, between the 15th and the 18th September 2020, under the theme “Resilient Inheritability: Sharing Values of Global Modernity”. 2018-2022: The Headquarters of Docomomo International in Lisbon

The headquarters of Docomomo International will remain in Lisbon, based at Técnico – University of Lisbon, 2018-2022, under the presidency of Ana Tostões. Docomomo International wishes to call attention on the future of Docomomo International Headquarters. All the Working Parties are invited to send candidacies for hosting the future headquarters of Docomomo International (2022 – 2028), before December 2019, to be approved at the 16th council meeting (2020).

Lancashire Goes Pop. Modernism & Politics in Central Blackburn in the 1960s

Blackburn Shopping Centre was built through the sixties in partnership between the Blackburn Corporation and the Laing Development Company, and was designed by the Preston based architectural firm Building Design Partnership (BDP). BDP, as evinced by their two recently listed projects Preston Bus Station and the Halifax Headquarters Building, were one of the few architectural practices of the period really able to exploit the aesthetic possibilities of a project of this scale.
