Last 21st March 2017, the Chair of Docomomo International, Prof. Ana Tostões, visited the Yamanashi Cultural Center (1966), Kofu City, Japan, designed by Kenzo Tange. This building is an outstanding example of rehabilitation after being undergoing earthquake retrofitting which expects to extend the building’s lifespan for another 50 years. Before the visit, Prof. Ana Tostões had a meeting in Tange Associates office with Paul Noritaka Tange (in the picture) to know more about the rehabilitation project. Last 20th February, the Chair of Docomomo International, Prof. Ana Tostões, met the Chair of Docomomo US, Theo Prudon, and the Chair of ICOMOS ISC 20, Gunny Harboe, in Chicago. Gunny Harboe, leading architect of the restoration of Chicago´s Unity Temple (Frank Lloyd Wright, 1905–1908), provided a extensive tour throught the building presenting the restoration processes undertaken.
In February, the Chair of Docomomo International, Prof. Ana Tostões, led interviews to Prof. Kenneth Frampton (Columbia University, New York, USA), to Jong Soung Kimm (SAC International, Ltd., Architects Consultants, Seoul, Korea), to William Whitaker (Architectural Archives of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA) and to David Brownlee (University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA).
