Architecture in dialogue, Portugal and Brasil

Starting from the themes proposed in the Exhibition “Infinito Vão – 90 years of Brazilian Architecture” [Infinito Vão – 90 Anos de Arquitetura Brasileira], the seminar “Architecture in Dialogue: Portugal and Brazil” [Arquitetura em Diálogo: Portugal e Brasil] invited 14 architects from the two countries to talk about the distinctive traits of both the new architectonical productions. With the curator Helena Barranha, the exhibition propose a way of watching the Neo-Realism museum as a convergence space of several trips, questions and museological projects inside Alcinho Soutinho’s life and work. Starting from the list of visited museums from several countries, and the expositive spaces designed by himself, the exhibition highlights the way the Neo-Realism Museum reflects all the references, creating a strong relationship with the urban fabric of Vila Franca de Xira. Exhibition: Siza – Unseen & Unknown

Tchoban Foundation Museum für Architekturzeichnung would like to invite to their new exhibition “Siza – Unseen & Unknown”. Álvaro Siza was awarded the Pritzker Prize for his life’s work in 1992 and is one of the most renowned contemporary architects. Amongst many accolades, he received the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2002 and 2012. The current exhibition at the Museum for Architectural Drawing provides an intimate view into Siza’s work, illustrated by sensitive and playful sketches that contrast with the monumentality of his buildings. Event: Public Space – Passage and Stay

The Center for Urban Information of Lisbon (CIUL), together with partner universities such as FA-UL, ISCTE-IUL, FCSH-UNL, FBA-UL, IST-UL, has organized a 2-day event “Encontro UniverCidades”, to be held on 29th and 30th January. EU Mies Award 2019: 40 Shortlisted works announced

The Jury for the 2019 Mies Award has just announced the list of 40 works that are contenders for this year’s Prize. The shortlisted works are spread out in 17 different European countries. 7 of them are in France, 6 in Spain, 4 in Belgium, 3 in Austria and 3 in Denmark. Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and  Romania have 2 shortlisted works and Albania, Estonia, Finland, Poland, Portugal, Serbia and Slovakia 1 work each. It is the first time that Albania, Serbia and Slovakia have a shortlisted work. In the selection of 40, Culture is the most represented program with 15 works (museums, cultural centres, music theatres and an auditorium/congress centre).
