Álvaro Siza named Honorary Member of the International Committee of Architectural Critics

Open Call: Arquitectas da nossa casa

Within the aim of  celebrating the National Day of the Architect, which is celebrated on 3rd July, the Centro Regional Section of the Portuguese Order of Architects will hold the conference “Arquitectas da nossa casa” on 26 October 2024 to highlight the portuguese women architects. MUDE reopened last week

Docomomo Portugal is pleased to announce that MUDE (Design Museum), in Lisbon, reopened last week on 25 July, after 8 years of rehabilitation works. As reopening exhibition is featured until 31 October 2024 the exhibition “O Edifício em Exposição / The Building on Exhibition”. Directed by Bárbara Coutinho, Docomomo Portugal member and co-chair of Docomomo ISC/ID, since its creation in 2009, MUDE closed for extensive rehabilitation works in 2016 by architect Luís Miguel Saraiva. It is located in Lisbon’s historical center Baixa Pombalina, MUDE occupies an entire Pombaline Quarter, where previously were located the headquarters of the National Ultramarine Bank….

Visits Cycle: A Nossa Casa – C.A.S.A. exhibition

As parallel programming of the C.A.S.A. (Collection, Álvaro Siza  Archive) exhibition, is taking place from 4-15 July 2024 the visits cycle “A Nossa Casa”, offering on-site visits to the projects on display in the Álvaro Siza Wing of the Serralves Foundation. Each work is presented by experts and/or even the owners, providing unique perspectives on its genesis, evolution and interior occupation. In this sort of anthropology of architectural space, not only the thoughts of Álvaro Siza are revealed, but also the intimacy of each person’s dwelling. CICA Tribute to Álvaro Siza

On occasion of the commemoration of Álvaro Siza’s 91 anniversary, Docomomo Portugal records the tribute to him held by CICA (International Committee of Architectural Critics) at the Serralves Foundation last 6th May 2024. The tribute counted with the presence of Álvaro Siza and Wilfried Wang (president of CICA), and Ana Tostões (CICA member and president of AICA_PT – International Association of Art Critics, Portugal, and Docomomo Portugal president) as well as Alejandro Aravena (Pritzker Prize 2016 and actual president of the Pritzker Prize jury). Exhibition “Siza”

Last 16 May was inaugurated at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, the exhibition “Siza”, which will be patent there at the Main Gallery and Temporary Exhibition Gallery from 17 May to 26 August 2024. Docomomo Portugal and the Docomomo International Specialist Committee on Interior Design (ISC/ID) organized between 7-9 March 2024 the Conference “Modernist women interior designers and artists: to deepen the reading of the different expressions of female creativity.” The conference was held at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, in celebration of the International Women’s Day. Docomomo Portugal is happy to announce that next Saturday, 11 May, its president Ana Tostões and secretary general Zara Ferreira will do a guided tour through one of Lisbon’s modern neighbourhoods – Telheiras Sul, as part of Lisbon Open House Conceived by Pedro Vieira de Almeida and Augusto Pita and promoted by EPUL, the Detailed Plan of Telheiras (1973-74), aimed to address the housing shortage of urban middle classes.
