Blackburn Shopping Centre was built through the sixties in partnership between the Blackburn Corporation and the Laing Development Company, and was designed by the Preston based architectural firm Building Design Partnership (BDP). BDP, as evinced by their two recently listed projects Preston Bus Station and the Halifax Headquarters Building, were one of the few architectural practices of the period really able to exploit the aesthetic possibilities of a project of this scale. Docomomo Hong Kong is presenting a series of public lectures on modern architecture ‘s history in Hong Kong at the city’s Heritage Discovery Centre. The lectures will be held on Nov. 22, Dec. 6, and Dec. 20, 2014. Each lecture session is organized around a particular theme: “Mobility and Efficiency,” “Comfort in Living,” and “Rationality and Technology,” respectively. The first two sessions will be held in Cantonese, and the third session will be in English. EFAITH is working hard to turn the industrial heritage campaign of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 into a success: the theme months, the cross-border initiatives and the twinning program. From September onwards the focus will be on promoting cross-border cooperation and twinning between associations. There is still one theme month announced: October, will be devoted to adaptive re-use of industrial buildings, to promote and present good practices of giving a new life to old industrial buildings – respecting their heritage and image.
