This work is the result of research undertaken by Docomomo Macau about the architect Manuel Vicente, compiling all the material produced for a series of conferences and the exhibition “Descobrir Manuel Vicente”. This book originates from the desire to reflect on Vicente’s work, from the point of view of those who worked with him, sharing the creative process, thoughts and strategies they developed during his practice in Macau. Within the 14th International Docomomo Conference, the International Docomomo Workshop – “The Adaptive Reuse of Lisbon riverside area: the MMC case study” took place in Lisbon, at Instituto Superior Técnico, from 1 to 5 September 2016. The workshop brought together 30 renowned architects and 90 students from different universities worldwide to discuss the future of the Manutenção Militar Complex (MMC). Docomomo Israel Inaugural Symposium Ideal(istic) Education | Modern Education and Modern Architecture took place last Thursday, 19th May, 2016, at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. This symposium had the special participation of Prof. Ana Tostões, chair of docomomo International, who has presented her keynote lecture by video since that, for compelling reasons, was not able to be in Israel, for the event.
docomomo International wishes to convey the most sincere condolences at the passing of the great artist Querubim Lapa, to his family and friends. Querubim Lapa was born in Portimão, in 1925. Having graduated in Sculpture (1947 – 1953) and Painting (1978), in ESBAL, Lisbon, he was an author of a multiple work – painting, drawing, sculpture, tile, engraving – but it was in the ceramics applied to architecture that he was distinguished himself.
