The 5th International Conference Modernism in Europe – Modernism in Gdynia, organized by the City of Gdynia, was held last 20th-22nd October. Docomomo International awarded Maija Kairamo with the Docomomo Award 2016, for decades of commitment, hard work and intelligence in the defence and affirmation of Docomomo. The closing ceremony of the 14th International Docomomo Conference – “Adaptive Reuse. The Modern Movement Towards the Future ” – was held on the 9th September at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon. The ceremony was hosted by Ana Tostões, Chair of Docomomo International. It counted with the honorable intervention of the portuguese Minister of Culture, Luís Filipe de Castro Mendes, the portuguese Minister of Environment, João Pedro Matos Fernandes and the President of Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, Fernando Medina, apart from the many Docomomo friends. Last September 8 took place at the Goethe-Institut in Lisbon, the presentation of the photo book “Angola Cinemas”. The presentation was attended by the book´s editors, Michael Hurst and Christiane Schulte, and the photographer Walter Fernandes. This was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Ana Vaz Milheiro, with the participation of Ana Tostões, Pedro Crisóstomo and Maria Pommrenke. The photo exhibition is available in the Goethe-Institut until 15 November 2016.
The headquarters of Docomomo International will remain in Lisbon, based at Técnico – University of Lisbon, in the biennium 2017-2018, chaired by Ana Tostões and secretariat by Zara Ferreira. Docomomo International wishes to call attention on the future of Docomomo International. All the Working Parties are invited to send candidacies for hosting the future headquarters of Docomomo International.

Other confirmed keynote speakers are Anne Lacaton, Jean Philippe Vassal, Joan Busquets and Winfried Brenne. Alvaro Siza Born in Matosinhos, Porto, in 1933. He studied in the School of Fine Arts in Porto and worked with the Portuguese architect Fernando Tavora between 1955 and 1958. He taught at the School of Architecture (ESBAP) from 1966-69 and was appointed Assistant Professor of Construction in 1976….
