Highlights – Docomomo ISC/ID Conference 2026 – Recording Change: Documenting Modern Movement Interiors

On 13-14 October 2026 took place in Lisbon the Docomomo IS/ID Conference 2026 – “Recording Change: Documenting Modern Movement Interiors”, the second conference organized  by the Docomomo International Specialist Committee on Interior Design (ISC/ID), in collaboration with Docomomo Portugal.

The conference focused on the documentation of Modern Movement interiors and on the challenges of recording environments that are inherently dynamic, vulnerable and constantly changing. Bringing together Docomomo ISC/ID members from different geographical and cultural contexts, it will explore approaches to documenting the material, social and cultural dimensions of modern interiors, considering documentation as a fundamental and proactive form of preservation.

Hosted at MUDE – Museu do Design on 13 October, the conference included presentations by Zsuzsanna Böröcz, Zara Ferreira, Deniz Hasirci, Silvia Segarra, Anita Puig, Milena Kordić, Marta Peixoto and Ana Tostões, addressing different methodologies and case studies related to the recording, use, transformation and preservation of Modern Movement interiors.

Further a guided visit to MUDE – Museu do Design, led its director Barbara Coutinho, took place  on 13 October, and to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, led by Ana Tostões, on 14 October.

The ISC/ID Meeting took place on 14 October at Museu DECivil, Instituto Superior Técnico.

In parallel it was also an opportunity to strengthen the collaboration between Docomomo Portugal and Docomomo Brazil, having a meeting between both chairs Ana Tostões and Marta Peixoto taken place.
