Docomomo International was on the 25th UIA World Congress, represented by Arch. João Belo Rodeia, President of the International Council of Architects of Portuguese Language (CIALP). The 25th UIA World Congress took place at the Durban International Convention Center, in Durban, South Africa, from 3rd to 7th August 2014.
Arch. João Belo Rodeia took part at the round table of the UIA’s partners took place on 6 August 2014 during the UIA Congress in Durban, South Africa.
The UIA and Partners Roundtable united the institutions with which the UIA maintains relations and exchanges based on protocols and reciprocal agreements. UIA Past President Albert Dubler presided over the proceedings, which took place in the presence of representatives from United Nations agencies (ONU-Habitat), regional organizations of architects (CAE, ARCASIA, FPAA, AUA, CAA, UMAR, CIALP), organizations for the preservation of heritage and the environment (DOCOMOMO, ICOMOS, Green Building Council, Active House), and humanitarian organizations (The Emergency Architects Foundation).
The ensemble of partners committed to work together to phase out CO2 and fossil fuel emissions by 2050, by means of design strategies and socially responsible construction. The “Declaration 2050 Imperatives,” put forward by the Director of the Australian Institute of Architects, David Parken, was discussed and amended by the partners for presentation before the UIA General Assembly on 8 August 2014, where it was unanimously adapted. Both CIALP and DOCOMOMO signed the Declaration.
