Matter. the white conferences evokes the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mário Bonito (1921-1976) – a modern architect from Porto author of works as the “O Lar Familiar” Neighborhood and the Ouro Industrial Company Building, with a strong connection to the cinema, a decisive role in the Portuguese Club of Cinematography, and an active participation in theater -, through a set of actions that discuss his lines of thought and body of work, which we aim to expand and develop through the pursuit of authorial readings on contemporary matters, beginning mid- September, extending up to the end of December 2021.

The diverse program is triggered by Mario Bonito’s intellectual restlessness and cross-over notions in architecture, cinema and the theater, which we aim to expand and develop through the pursuit of authorial readings on contemporary matters.

After the launching of MárioBonito.1OOanos with the exhibition “Grande Composição (ESBAP, 1951-57)” [Big Composition], at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, FAUP, and the round table with the film “Consciência Crítica: homenagem a Mário Bonito” [Critical Conscience: homage to Mário Bonito], at Cinemateca Portuguesa, on 23rd and 30th October will take place at the Auditorium of the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library the cycle of multidisciplinary conversations “o ser moderno” [the modern being] – having as invited guests José Miguel Rodrigues, António Preto, Gonçalo Amorim and Alexandre Alves Costa (23rd October), and Domenico Chizzoniti, Alexandra Balona, ​​Cristina Pallini and Ana Tostões (30th October).

Also,  the exhibition “Mário Bonito: a experimentação do moderno” [Mário Bonito: the experimentation of the modern] will be hosted  at Casa das Artes until the end of this year, highlighting his vocation and multifaceted action in artistic activity, political and sociocultural, along with his passionate relationship with life and with those around him. The exhibition will be inaugurated on 6th November, with testimonies by Pedro Ramalho, Domingos Tavares and Sérgio Fernandez.

In parallel with the exhibition, at Casa das Artes, five international conferences will be held by renowned architectural offices:
– 12th November: Christ & Gantenbein (Basel);
– 19th November: b720 Fermín Vázquez (Madrid, Barcelona);
– 26th November: Bruno Fioretti Marquez (Berlin, Lugano);
– 3rd December: Brenne Architekten (Berlin);
– 17th December: Marco di Michelis (Venice).
