2021 ICOMOS Germany Student Competition

Save the date

In 2021, the biennial students’ competition, organised by ICOMOS Germany with partner organisations, will again be dedicated to the young heritage after 1960. This time the focus will be on “Beton Brut” Architecture, i.e. literally on “raw” exposed concrete buildings and other examples of so-called brutalism.
The competition will be launched at the beginning of 2021 and will have a closing date in September of that year. It is again aimed at students of architecture and urban planning, history of art, restoration, archaeology, or other heritage-related disciplines. The prizewinning entries are to be awarded on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the World Heritage inscription of the Würzburg Residence at the end of October 2021. An online publication of the competition is planned to follow.
In order to allow for an early inclusion of the competition topics in the curricula of the summer semester 2021, e.g. as part of seminars and tutorials, this Save the Date wishes to inform about the upcoming competition.

Regular organisers of the competition and represented on the jury are:
The German National Committee of ICOMOS
Arbeitskreis Theorie und Lehre der Denkmalpflege e.V.
The Wüstenrot Foundation
Trier University of Applied Sciences, Chair of Architectural Monument Conservation

In addition, representatives of universities and state chambers of architects from the respective federal state are also asked to participate in the call for proposals.
