The Opening Ceremony of the “13th DOCOMOMO International Conference – Expansion and Conflict” was held on the 24th September at the Ninetree Convention – Grand Ballroom, in Seoul.

The ceremony was hosted by Tae Woo, Chair of Docomomo Korea and by Prof. Jong Soung Kimm, Chair of the 13th International Docomomo Conference Korea 2014 and was introduced by Eui-Sung Yi.

It was attended by the honorable presence of the Administrator of Korea Cultural Heritage Administration, the Administrator of Korea National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Director of Chief Commissioner of the presidential on Architecture Policy, the Ambassador of Portugal in Korea and the Director of the MMCA, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, apart from the many DOCOMOMO friends.

The Conference was formally opened by Docomomo International Chair, Ana Tostões, who invited all to join the DOCOMOMO stimulating environment in very special atmosphere of the city of Seoul during the conference days. She briefly referred to the undertaken activities in the last two years and welcomed the 5 new Docomomo working parties candidacies and the partner organizations — UIA, UNESCO, ICOMOS and Getty Institute.

Ana Tostões expressed her gratitude to the perseverant initiative of the Korean team, welcomed the participants and wished all successful sessions.

Last, but not least, everyone had the unique opportunity to enjoy Korean traditional music and dance performances, as a very pleasant welcome dinner.
