Pavillon of Berta Rahm threatened

Docomomo France shared with Docomomo International the opened letter concerning the pavilion of Berta Rahm (1958).

“Dear Sir or Madam,

At the beginning of February this year, the research team of the new SNSF project (National Fund Switzerland) on the Saffa 1958 (Swiss Exhibition on Women’s Work) at the Haute École des Sciences Applées from Zurich (ZHAW) learned of the existence of a pavilion from the Saffa 1958. A sensational discovery for us and the scientific community.
The pavilion of Berta Rahm, an unknown and unfortunately forgotten architect, is not only a jewel architecture of the 1950s. She is also an important cultural witness to the history of women in Switzerland.
This remarkable small aluminum construction was bought at the end of the Saffa exhibition by Erica
Hauser, a pioneer in mushroom cultivation; she had it rebuilt in Gossau (ZH) for serving as a canteen and as a demonstration kitchen. Abandoned for several years, the pavilion is today threatened with disappearance, having already been issued the demolition permit.
To safeguard this pavilion, our team carried out a complete survey of the building and found a storage space. We are currently looking for the necessary funds to finance the dismantling. The project funding depends mainly on your donations. Costs estimated at nearly 80,000 francs will cover the complete dismantling of the building and its interim storage.
In view of the urgency of the action, we would be grateful for any prompt help.
