TRANSIZIONI DI MEMORIA. Narrazioni della violenza nel XX e nel XXI secolo / Transitions of memory. Narratives of violence in the 20th and 21st centuries

Docomomo International is pleased to announce that on 15th-16th October 2021 will take occur the International Conference “TRANSIZIONI DI MEMORIA. Narrazioni della violenza nel XX e nel XXI secolo / Transitions of memory. Narratives of violence in the 20th and 21st centuries” organized by the Fossoli Foundation. It will take place in Carpi at Cinema Eden, but can as well be followed  online in streaming on the Facebook page of Fondazione Fossoli.

At this conference “Scholars from different disciplines confront the subject of the memory of violence, its stratifications, narratives and transitions during the 20th century and up to the present. The papers examine Italian and foreign experiences – even making comparisons – and focus on history and memory of events and places, on recounting a traumatic event through testimonies, literature, new technologies, museums, on representation of violence in artistic and architectural form, on problematic nodes of the relation between history and memory of traumatic events.

Since 1996 the Fossoli Foundation has been managing a memorial system of international importance that includes the historic site of the Fossoli Camp, the Monument Museum to the Deported and, from 2010, the building housing the former Synagogues of Carpi, where its headquarters are located. This major tangible heritage is further enriched by another more intangible asset: the Study Centre, consisting of an interesting archive of subjective documentation, major book collections and works of art.”

At the end of the Conference the recordings of the speeches will be published on the website www.centrostudifossoli.org
