On June 4, next Monday, will be presented at FAUP the editorial project Fernando Távora. As Raízes e os Frutos 1937-2001, with research, coordination and notes by Manuel Mendes. The session will have as invited speakers architect Domingos Tavares, historian Raquel Henriques da Silva, and the philosopher Paulo Pires do Vale, as well as Manuel Mendes, the President of the Marques da Silva Foundation, which is responsible for publishing this project, Fátima Vieira, and the Vice-President of FAUP, Teresa Calix.
As Manuel Mendes said, “Fernando Távora. As Raízes e os Frutos – palavra desenho obra 1937-2001 addresses the world of Fernando Távora, in the network of its various dimensions. Volume 1, “Caminhos da arquitectura. Arquitectura e circunstância 1937-1947” considers the many initiatives and studies that, at a time when he was identifying his vocation rather than seeking originality, the young Fernando Távora undertook in his eagerness to find answers to the question – Why a different kind of architecture? The new architecture will not be formed in two or three generations, as those who believe they have created a Portuguese style suppose. To reach the man who is neither a calculating machine nor an existence without control.” (Full text in Portuguese here)
