About
FOCUS AND SCOPE
Docomomo Journal is the open-access, international, peer-reviewed journal of Docomomo International that, since 1990, has provided a twice-yearly summary of recent and original research on the documentation and conservation of Modern Movement buildings, sites and neighbourhoods.
Since its creation in 1988, Docomomo International has experienced rapid growth, establishing itself as a major player in the broader field of architectural culture. By virtue of its inclusive, pluralist and interdisciplinary nature, Docomomo Journal acts as an exchange platform that brings together architects, town-planners, landscape architects, engineers, historians and sociologists. Broad in scope, Docomomo Journal welcomes theoretical, historical, technical and critical contributions that support its comprehensive coverage of the Modern Movement, encompassing landscape, urbanism, architecture, engineering, technology, design, education and theory.
In its exploration of the Modern Movement Docomomo Journal takes a broad view, in chronological and geographical terms, and encourages the participation of authors from around the world (with contributions from more than 90 countries and 5 continents, to date) on subjects ranging from adaptive (re)use, new findings on built work, and contemporary methods of conservation technology, to new ideas for a sustainable built environment in the future.
Providing a link between theory and practice, Docomomo Journal is committed to creating a body of critical knowledge with a range and depth of thought that will enrich the architectural discipline and its practice.

OPEN-ACCESS POLICY
Docomomo Journal provides open access to its content, to encourage its dissemination, promote research and endorse the global exchange of knowledge.
EDITORIAL POLICIES
Docomomo Journal publishes contents by invitation and is open to free submissions.
Since 2010, Docomomo Journal is edited with a specific theme by issue, elected by the editorial board, with the approval of Docomomo International community. Scientific board members, leading experts on the theme of the issue, are invited to collaborate with the editorial board in the selection of authors and contents.
The manuscripts received are subjected to the following peer review process.
If you wish to submit contents to the journal, please check the submission guidelines.
Peer review process
The manuscripts received are assessed, in the first instance, by the Docomomo Journal editorial assistant team.
The editorial assistant team verify if the manuscripts follow the formal guidelines required for authors.
Manuscripts are sent to the editorial board, and to the scientific board members to analyse their relevance to the journal’s fields of knowledge and the theme of the issue in question. Both the editorial board and the scientific board members are entitled to decide on the rejection or acceptance of manuscripts, and to suggest major or minor changes to them. In the event of a disagreement between reviewers, the editorial board decides whether or not to request additional revisions.
The reviewers’ assessments will judge the significance of the manuscript, its contribution to knowledge in the field of study, the originality of the work, the validity of the discourse, the critical judgment, and the use of an appropriate bibliography, making recommendations for improvement, if necessary.
Authors will receive a blind reviewed, detailed and reasoned response, which includes the redrafted contents of the original manuscripts, with specific instructions for modifications. In this process, the evaluations of the different reviewers are made blind.
When authors are asked to make modifications to manuscripts, they will be given 1 month to complete them. Authors must send a new version, identifying the changes made, and following the requirements and suggestions made by the reviewers. The editorial committee will then verify the validity of the modifications made by the authors.
The editorial board and the scientific board are composed of leading experts in the field, a practice from which both the journal and the contributors can benefit.
Reviewers’ Guidelines
Reviewers must have no conflicts of interest. Reviewers are asked to notify the editor-in-chief if there is any reason preventing them from carrying out an anonymous, independent and fair assessment of the submitted manuscripts.
Reviewed manuscripts must be treated confidentially prior to their publication. Reviewers are requested not to disclose the contents of manuscripts they are asked to review to third parties. Manuscripts sent for revision are private documents that cannot be disclosed before publication.
Reviewer assessments are treated confidentially. Reviewer evaluations and suggestions for improvement will be sent to the authors, without revealing the reviewer’s identity. Reviewers are asked to indicate if any of their comments are addressed exclusively to the editorial board and not to the author.
